Be Delusional

Be a delusional creative.

It’s easy to get caught up in other peoples work. Everyday you are bombarded with hundreds of other peoples art and accomplishments.

Well, guess what?

None of those people can do what you can do.

Not a single other person can make what you can make. You have to know that. All of us humans on this planet live similar lives. We have a lot of the same problems, the same insecurities, the same hopes and desires, but still no one has lived your life.

The way we experience things is different, the people we meet are different, the things we see everyday and what we choose to put our energy into is different.

Everyone is like you but no one else is you. Whatever is inside of you, is only inside of you. No one can do what you can do, the same way you can do it.

That is the only thing we have going for us; the only thing that is guaranteed for each and every person.

You are cool as hell. And you just have to own it.

You’re an amalgamation of everything you’ve ever seen, tasted, smelt, felt, and heard.

What does this have to do with being a delusional creative?

Well, once you realize those things a huge weight is lifted from you. All of the things you think you should be, all the things you don’t think you’re good enough at, and all of the judgement goes away.

You don’t need to try to emulate the people you like. Unfortunately, you will never do what they do, better than them. But who cares?

They could never do what you can do. Your heroes can’t do what you can do.

You’re already better than everyone. Everyone is also already better than you.

So go ahead and create. Make things like a monster. Be expressive and creative and wild. Attack the canvas. Fill up pages with stories. Talk to people. Share stories and ask questions. Be insatiably curious. Try things out of wonder. And don’t worry because you can do no wrong. You’ll never make a mark that doesn’t add something to the world.

That’s the point of art anyways. To illustrate something. To express yourself. To have fun. To learn and experiment. Your comparisons and internal judgments aren’t helping you and they’re not helping the world. They’re keeping you from creating freely. That’s not good for anyone, is it?

Lets wrap it up.

Other peoples art is cool and all but it’s got nothing on you.

So, get out there and touch, taste, lick, feel, listen, see, eat, smell, talk, sing, dance and experience more things. Do it with acceptance and curiosity and leave your fear at home. Then use it to make the things that only you could every make. And remember you’re the best.

(But I’m better)
